What Is Manufactured on Demand?

Last revision date: September 01, 2018

Many movie and music companies have taken advantage of this new process called Manufactured on Demand, which enables the companies to offer movie or music content to consumers on recordable CDs or DVDs.

It differs from traditional CD, Blu-ray, and DVD, releases, as it will only produces on demand, rather than these items being stored in a physical warehouse, eliminating such physical inventory.

When shopping, you may see and notice CD-R, BD-R and DVD-R on the product detail page (the “R” stands for “recordable”) the discs you’re used to and offer the same audio and image quality.

This recordable media is used to manufacture titles on demand as fully authorized by the content provider. All products are manufactured from original source materials, thus eliminating inventory, waste and inefficiencies in the distribution system; on-demand manufacturing provides the added benefit of helping preserve the environment.

Many companies have been taking advantage of this process. Including Warner Brothers Home Entertainment and Music Group, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Music Group, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Music Group and Mill Creek Home Entertainment.
